First of all you need to learn this profession, you find the leatherworking trainer here:

Nezebgrad
Accept the first quest and buy the Leatherworker's Training Manual (right click to activate it), Apprentice Tool Belt, Bronce Pincers and 200 Rough Twine
Now open your crafting bag, right click on your Tool Belt
How it works:
With your first quest you got enough materials to craft till lv6, after lv 6 you won't get anymore crafting exp., so just talk to the npc and finish the quest.
Every 20 levels you will need to buy a new Tool Belt (20/40/60)
Same goes for the Pincers (8/28/38)
How to get Leather:
If you are new in the game and leveling you get leather and tailoring material by killing mobs, every 10 levels of crafting you will need a different type of leather.
You can find out where to get it by opening the map and use the dropdown list
and so on....
If you are already max level, then you can farm in your current zones (KOE, Eden..) the leather and buy..
Be careful and don't downgrade all your material at once!
With the Pincers you cut the leather in the materials you need for crafting
With lv28 you will need another component:
Buttonhooks
Fringe
String
Inset
You get those as drops (Craftsman chests) from mobs:
And if you are already max level und never saved those, you can buy them from Cosimo de Pluie in AlRihat
And ofcourse downgrade those with Cloroform.
